The speed bag started out as a just a fun hobby, but quickly became part of my lifestyle and in a lot of ways helped get through difficult times in my life. In turn, the reason I became so good at it was because it helped me to find a healthy way to deal with anxiety and depression I was experiencing at the time. This art of the speed bag has been one of the few constants in the past couple years of my life. Even with the level of skill I’ve attained, the soon release of speed bag documentary “Art of the Bag” and an upcoming Gillette television campaign, the speed bag hasn’t changed much to me.
If you are open to it, even though it sounds corny, the speed bag can explain life to you. If you are overly aggressive and rigid with the bag it doesn’t listen and tends to be a lot more difficult to work with. On the other hand if you are relaxed, confident, and go with the flow of what what is happening then the bag will listen and you will make less mistakes.
I became interested in the Speed Bag through my brother. We watched speed bag videos together on Youtube and after watching “my speed bag history” by Alan Kahn I instantly knew it was something I wanted to try.

Art of the Bag is a tribute to the amazing sound and rhythm of the speed bag. It has a rich history that goes far beyond it’s more recognized boxing roots. From the performance stages of Vaudeville, where amazing speed baggers toured and put on multi-bag demonstrations, to the new modern day “punch drummers”(tm) who use the bag as a hanging drum, mixing the rhythms with music, there is a fascinating story to be told, about some very fascinating people who all have one thing in common….. A speed bag addiction. This addiction can get you healthy! Visit: www.ArtOfTheBag.com
